Phénix Opera Company is proud to
announce its 2020 season!
A Double-bill Production
Come and enjoy this exciting double-bill of
an intense tragedy and a delightful comedy!
Lucrezia is a gripping tragedy inspired by Shakespeare's poem The Rape of Lucrece. It tells the story of a gentlewoman wronged by a lust and power driven Roman prince. This 50-minute opera gives us some spectacular music by a composer not often associated with opera, Ottorino Respighi.
Following a tragedy, Phénix Opera presents Gianni Schicchi, a witty comedy by Italian master Giacomo Puccini. The plot is an elaboration of on an incident mentioned in Dante's Divine Comedy. This comedy has it all, a couple of innamorati, a man in disguise, greedy relatives and a coveted inheritance. What could go wrong?
The performances will be sung in the original Italian with English subtitles and features live piano accompaniment by the company's artistic director Osvaldo de Leon.
